Cyclical voltage dip Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Mon, 7 Mar 2016 18:27:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Noticed it due to periodic slight dimming of the headlights, so switched the dashboard info display to monitor voltage. The system voltage is 13.7 or 13.8 most of the time. However every minute or two it drops down to 12.7 volts and over the next several seconds comes back up to normal. Then after another minute or two the cycle repeats.
I'm thinking voltage regulator, but was wondering if the battery or some other issue might be causing this. (The battery is about 3 years old and seems OK as far as starting on cold mornings.)
The alternator is an Autozone "lifetime warranty" job but I'd be inclined to just put a new Bosch regulator on it if that's the likely culprit.
