Brake master cyl adjustment

I need to adjust the free play between the push rod coming out of the vacuum booster and the brake master cylinder rod.
Has anyone ever made this adjustment?
Reason why it is needed-after driving car for 15-20 minutes, the brakes (probably all four, but most noticeably the fronts)slowly but surely begin applying to the point of lockup. Strangest thing I have ever seen.
Background: Removed the electric pump/abs solenoid/accumulator contraption from this former 5 speed TCS equipped car, and replaced with a regular old fashioned brake booster/master cylinder. Works GREAT. For first 15 minutes.
Brake pedal has the return spring, and this seems to be good enough to bring pedal back 'up' to its rest position.
Some searching on the web indicates that too little free play between the booster and master does not allow the return ports on master to 'bleed' the pressure. Then the heat continues to expand the fluid, increasing pressure continously! It is exactly what I am seeing. The combination booster/ master came as a unit off of the same donor car, so not sure WHY this is happening, but open to advice if anyone has run into this before.
