Not a fun job, but satisfying to be done with it!
Is stainless rod the best choice for this? Because of the different coefficients of expansion between the aluminum head and the cast iron manifold, I assume that the studs need some flexibility. I know that ARP makes stainless studs, not sure what material.
Don't make the mistake I did: when I finished, I took the car out for a test drive, stomped on the gas and immediately got a speeding ticket (42 in a downhill 30 zone) a couple of blocks from my house. The cop did not share my joy in completing the job.
