Dimmer Switch Mod Posted by sam96CS [Email] (#852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from sam96CS) on Tue, 30 Aug 2016 08:46:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The dimmers on '94-'98 model years are not known for durability. I got tired of "repairing" mine with a soldering iron only to have it go bad again in a few months. I knew I could cut off the wiring harness and twist some wires together to get full bright lights, but I didn't want a messy fix inside the dash that can't be reversed.
So I removed the dimmer, took it apart and soldered a short length of wire to the dimmer's circuit board. The wire runs from the pad of pin #7 (power in from fuse #29 on the green wire) to the pad of pin #4. Actually, it can run from #7 to any other pin's pad except #1 which is ground (small black wire).
The mod completely bypasses the potentiometer. All dimmer-driven lights are working except for the dimmer switch's light which is also bypassed. All lights are fully bright, which is fine for older eyes and night driving in urban and suburban areas.
