Spoke to Eriksson Industries, not looking good Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Mon, 3 Oct 2016 13:57:26 In Reply to: Oops... wrong cable!, JerseySaab [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 3 Oct 2016 13:06:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Initially they thought the kickdown adjustment had slipped until I got to the part where the transmission loses drive. Also I noticed checking it today that the trans didn't want to go into reverse. They gave me ideas for a few things to check but the symptoms are somewhat baffling and Eriksson believes it's most likely a serious internal problem. So I'll check what I can but it's not looking good for this 9000.
They also gave me a very good price on a rebuilt transmission, but this car is something of a beater. With over 300K miles and rust all over it's hard to justify the expense. (Plus I'd have to either swap it myself - I'm getting too old for that kind of heavy work! - or pay someone to do it.)
I did find the following troubleshooting flowchart at Townsend, though not very detailed it interestingly shows to check the governor and seals if there is no reverse. (Eriksson mentioned checking the governor as well.) So I do have more work to do before being certain that the transmission (and thus the car) is toast.
