It was just a matter of carefully pulling the tube enough to pop it out. So the valve body is out of the car. This thing is one intimidating piece of hardware. (The effect is completed by trans fluid oozing out like blood.)
The transmission itself looks clean as inside, no sign of debris or wear. Of course you'd have to go in even deeper to really determine what's going on in there, further than I can go.
Next on the agenda is tearing into the governor and valve body on the workbench to look for broken springs and stuck parts. I'm well aware of the possibility of springs popping out with force along with small parts scattering, all falling into a black hole.
