Today I was in the area of a Saab parts & service center (former dealer) so for grins, not expecting anything, I checked their parts dept. They referred me to a transmission repair shop that they deal with, which in turn referred me to a local transmission parts supply house. Unfortunately that supplier didn't have anything either and said my best bet if I cannot find a used valve body to pluck a spring from will be to match it up with an industrial spring supplier.
I did measure the spring with a caliper gauge and got the following measurements:
38mm length
9mm outside diameter
1mm wire
I would also need to find the spring rate to match it up, should be able to at least come close using the bigger broken piece pressed against a scale.
Though thin on the ground in the U.S., the ZF 4HP18 was pretty popular in Europe. So there might be some parts available overseas but I'm not sure where to even start looking.
Local boneyards have been devoid of 9000s for some time now. Even if one showed up they'd probably want to sell the whole tranny rather than just the valve body.
