It's likely that the coolant system got over-pressurized on initial HG failure, and when you shut it off to cool down, that extra pressure found relief by pushing the coolant back through the failure point, and into the cylinder, thereby causing the lock-up. As Jersey suggested, drain the oil, and take a look. Pull the spark plugs, and roll over by hand. Should give you an indication of internal damage (if any).
