I don't think the ignition switch would cause this set of symptoms, particularly the EDU going dark, but will keep it in mind. (I can always swap in the switch from the other 9000 for test purposes.)
I found that while the engine stalled at idle it would continue running if given some throttle. However it ran unevenly like the ignition was misfiring.
SOP for computer problems is turning it off and back on again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UT8RkSmN4k) so I disconnected the battery for about an hour. On reconnection there is still no EDU and now the engine will not start. I also checked the EDU fuse with a continuity tester and it's OK.
When the ignition is turned on the low fuel light blinks on and off, with the ABS and charge lights dimming in time with it.
Sounds like time to take the dash top off to check grounds and the EDU connection, and to work through Ari's no-start checklist. (Come to think of it the engine symptoms are pretty similar to what happened with fuel pump failure on my other Saabs. I'll pay particular attention to that possibility.)
