When you have the belt off (or maybe with it still on if it's loose enough), wiggle the water pump pulley. On my last 9000, I changed mine at about 200K, not sure if it was ever done previously - the bushing had enough play in it that the pulley was hitting the face of the water pump, and there was still very little leakage out the front.
Changing the water pump is a bit more involved that it is on many cars, primarily because of the turbo plumbing and the O-ring that connects an extension tube to the engine block - I used Hylomar on assembly to seal it up, many others have reported leaks at this junction. Much written about this job in the archives, recommend that you do a search.
