I just purchased a 2008 9-5 SportCombi Wagon. So far so good. It's an auto box. I've been driving it now for about ten days. I believe that the only difference that year between the SportCombi and the Aero were the headlights and, possibly, the rear brakes. I have to thank my friend, Alex, for turning me on to the 9-5s. He recently purchased an unfinished project Aero wagon which I got a good look at. Its a pretty cool car. The seats are deeply bolstered and as comfortable as, dare I say it, the 9000 Aero seats. The hatch holds.................just as much as the 9000 although it's in a little different configuration. You pick up about 4 inches in length but, because the floor is flush with the bumper, you lose about 3 to 4 inches of height between the floor and the load protector/cover. That space is still there but it's under the floor. The seats fold down flat, unlike the Aero, so you pick up more useful space. I am 6' 6" mostly in my legs-I actually have the seat adjusted slightly forward-something I have never done in a car before. Shifting wise it's different. I rather like the manual mode-just hold the throttle down and punch the shift up button slightly before red line. There is no need to "lift"on the gas for the shifts (mentally challenging after 1 million miles driving Saab manuals). Unmodified, it's damn fast. What you miss are the 9000's huge spikes of torque but, because of the shifting, it's a bit quicker off the line. I like it enough to consider modifying the engine with the 9000 aero cam and the 9000 Aero number 6 exhaust housing. Interesting how all "roads" to performance lead back to the 9000. I am certainly keeping mine! 400K plus.
