I see a "hydraulic line" on the repair order that did the slave, so I guess the answer is yes on your first question.
About the flywheel, that is a complete unknown to me.
One thing about what you said, about the chunks that potentially could hurt the nearly-new slave, that is alarming that the car could already need another slave (translate $$$).
