Hello 9000 BB,
My name is Ilter, I live in Chicago. After months of reading Saabnet, checking online ads and looking for the right car, I gave up and bought what seemed like an okay car :)
It is an automatic '95 Aero.
I could not drive it for more than a few miles so far due to oil fumes in cabin. There is some oil seepage, mainly from distributor hole plug on the valve cover, that bathed that corner of the engine and transmission pretty well. I think that's causing the fumes as engine warms up. And Chicago is too cold these days to not turn on the heat, let alone open the windows.
Oh and the steering wheel rocks about an inch to either side at low speeds (~5mph), and the rocking seems to get faster, smaller as car speeds up and then disappear altogether past ~25mph. So I did not want to take the car to highway just yet.
After reading through some old posts, I decided first to do some careful engine cleanup using Simple Green and a brush, then change the distributor hole plug without opening the valve cover and see if that stops the oil fumes. As for steering, I think I will first check if I can spot anything wrong with front tires and take it from there. Maybe swapping front and rear tires will help and I can take the car for a proper drive.
Then there is lots of small things that could be fixed or left alone. And who knows what else I am not yet aware of. I hope it will be a fun experience!
Here is some engine snapshots showing the seepage(leaks?) etc.
