Continuing diagnosis of my 9000 CDE Posted by Stephie [Email] (#2399) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Stephie) on Thu, 6 Sep 2018 14:36:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Bill Homer suggested that my atrocious milage around town (sometimes as low as 10 MPG) may be due to the engine not warming up completely.
Yesterday a did some around town driving and then a two hour highway trip.
I know the AC uses some significant power so I turned off the AC for the driving around town. Sure enough, the milage went right up to 24 - 25 MPG.
In my last 9000 (also a 1995) I could get 33 MPG if I drove carefully. So for this highway section of this test I turned the AC off. I got 32.5MPG at 63 MPH measured by my GPS. About 30 minutes from home I could not stand the heat and humidity any more and I turned the AC back on. By the time I got home my milage had only dropped to 30.5MPG.
Don't run the AC on short trips?
Drive carefully and don't speed to get good milage on the highway?
Of course I used to drive my 900os at around 75 and 80 all the time. That is until i ran into some trouble. with stopped traffic.
