I have a 1994 9000 Aero and recently tried to teach my daughter to drive manual transmission at her request. Even on a good day, the 9000 is somewhat difficult to find gears (particularly first) and we had a couple of very frustrating outings, but better with experience. The big plastic ball and cage on the shift lever is somewhat worn (I've looked into replacing it with a short shift kit), and I imagine that the connecting bushings and rubber coupler could use replacement. I believe that the mechanism is pretty much the same for all 9000s.
