My 1991 9kt (5 speed 140K) failed to start a few weeks back and I need some guidance from the BB to get her back on the road. I'll list what I've done so far.
I initially thought it was my fuel pump since it wasn't audible upon startup. I replaced it with no success. I checked for power to the pump and found power (key on) to the thin wires. There is no power to the pump when cranking (or any other time) to the heavier red/green wires.
I have been following Quasi's no start check list and found that fuse 23, 13 and 14 all are fine. I also checked the fuses within the engine compartment and they are fine.
I jumped fuses 14 and 22 and the fuel pump operated, so I know my new pump works and the wires to the pump are in tact.
The check engine light illuminates when the ignition is left on. After 10 seconds or so it flashes twice, pauses, then repeats the cycle.
The tach needle jumps slightly when the ignition is turned on.
I have spare relays that were removed from operating vehicles. I swapped the FP relay located under the fuse panel with no success. However, I can feel the relay click when the key is turned off. The sound is not very audible, though.
I also tried swapping spare relays for the fuel pump relay under the hood and for the main relay under the hood. No success on either count.
I removed the ECU under the driver's seat and inspected the connections and everything looked fine. I then removed and re-attached the fitting a few times in case there was a bad connection. Again
no luck.
I would like to test the main relay and CPS by using a test lamp on the DI cassette connector, but am not sure which pins are 10 and 6 since I can't find any identification.
Other than the CPS, I'm not sure where else to look.
I do plan to remove the ECU under the aquarium and check for a bad connection, but I'm running out of ideas.
Any and all help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Dan
