maybe it's assembly lube...a non-petroleum lube used to put the MC together, that won't damage the seals in the MC like other greases.
If you re-lube it, be sure to use the same, brake assembly lube or silicone lube
I wouldn't wash it out w/ soap and water.
It seems to me it will be ok... if you're worried..disassemble it wash w/ brake parts cleaner, and re lube the seals in the bore.
