Interesting 1972 99 for sale on Saabnet Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Thu, 15 Sep 2016 06:57:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Guys, take a close look at the pictures of the green 1972 offered for sale here. The pictures don't show much of the exterior, but you can see the bumpers and lamp clusters which seem consistent with 1972. But now take a look at the dashboard - didn't the new dash start in 1971? Also take a look at the engine bay shot - what about that torque strut? I admit I'm not too well-versed in the early 99s, but I had the impression that was a 1969 only. Can anyone tell from the photo if that is a 1.7L or a 1.85L engine? For US cars anyway, weren't we getting only 1.85L D-Jetronic injection by 1972? (not that a Triumph engine would not have been swapped several times by 77K miles :-) ). Anyway, it looks like a very interesting car, particularly the interior looks really nice and I've always loved the early dash. I sent a note to the seller asking if he will share the serial numbers of the two cars (also a 1970 parts car) to clarify the model year. I forgot to ask if the 1972 has a free wheeling gearbox (it should not, if I recall 1972 was the first year of the upgraded gearbox).
I bring up all these questions as a follow-up to our recent discussion about how a new-to-99s enthusiast/collector knows what they are getting.
Let me know what you think!
Gary
