Did you figure it out?
The only thing that I can think of is the black ground wire that goes to a screw in the back of the alternator. This black ground wire does go into the bundle and does end in a ring terminal. So on the alternator, just below where your other wires are connected to the stud, should be a ground screw. Maybe the screw has fallen out?
That's the best I can do.
