Patquin, you may have solved the matter already, in which case this is for next time: You can do fine with no alignment tool, especially on the Saab where the engine is always out when you are aligning the clutch and you have good visibility. The purpose of alignment is to insure that three items are aligned on a single axis: flywheel, disc, and clutch cover.

1)Bolt the cover up to the flywheel lightly and evenly until the disc can be moved by sticking a screwdriver through the disc splines into the pilot bushing, then levering it in any direction to move the disc. The cover bolts must be just tight enough that the disc can slide when pushed but will stay where you put it, this is barely more than finger tight. 2) Place your eyeball on the axis and a flashlight beside your eyeball. Look toward the flywheel and observe concentricity of A) the circle of spring fingers on the clutch cover, B) the circle of the ID of the pilot bushing, and C) the circle of the splined hub on the disc. A and B are fixed; you need to move C to be concentric. Play around with the position of C and you will find that with practice you can judge its concentricity to a very fine measurement. Take your time and fiddle with it, until you find that when you think the disc is centered, you can then move it only the slightest increment with the screwdriver and observe that it is off-center. Tighten the cover bolts to specification with a torque wrench, and you are done.

It is critical to tighten the bolts evenly for the adjusting step and only enough to hold the disc against free movement. Too much tightening will start to compress the spring fingers and set them cockeyed distorting your observation. In final tightening, tighten evenly in a crossing pattern no more than a turn at a time. After final tightening repeat your observation that the disc is centered.

I have used this method for many years and believe that with practice, it is more accurate than using a tool. It is harder on most vehicles when the engine is in the vehicle and you have to stick your eyeball and the flashlight up where the transmission goes while lying on your back getting grease in your ponytail. With the engine out it is easy.
