I just checked the manual and you do have the same parking brake as my 68 Sonett. Nearly 40 years ago I converted to a floor shifter from a 74 and discovered the handbrake was in the way and had to remove it. After driving for many years with no handbrake (Phoenix is flat) I relocated the brake about 6" to the rear. There are adjustment nuts on the hand brake but not near enough to compensate for the amount I moved it. I had to shorten the cables at the wheel end. If your adjustments are all the way tight and your drums are not excessively worn this might be a solution.
