I'm brand new to Saabs, just acquired my '68 3 cylinder a couple of days ago.
I read a post somewhere that suggested the mechanical advance be "welded". The provider says that the additional advance can be detrimental with today's fuels?
Problem is, my distributor has no VACUUM advance as well, so essentially there is NO advance with additional rpm.
so, I am finding that it takes one ignition timing setting to get best power from low rpm take off, but another setting for best high-rpm power (not surprisingly).
I had read various articles advising disabling of both vacuum and mechanical advance, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe 2 cycles need different attention than 4 cycle engines?
I'd appreciate any comments to educate myself on this.

Austin, TX
