900 alternator conversion Posted by serge [Email] (#1363) [Profile/Gallery] (more from serge) on Sun, 31 Jan 2016 12:38:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi, all...I'm in a jam regarding the proper connection of a re-manned Bosch alternator from a classic 900. I have been following the steps outlined by Bill Tubbs at http://tubbs.cc/saab/alternator_conversion.htm, but I'm clearly doing something wrong as the charge light stays lit. I'm putting in the exact alternator that he shows, a Bosch A35X with internal voltage regulator.
I have pulled the red (72) wire from the old alternator plug and placed it directly on the D+ terminal. Thereafter, I get confused. Should I disconnect the plug from the old voltage regulator or leave it connected, should I get the (72) wire from that plug, bypassing the regulator, and/or should I do something with the other two wires (yellow 73 & black 49) that normally run from the regulator to the alternator? The two grey wires (74 & 85) are connected to the B+ terminal. My old alternator did not employ a separate ground, and I wonder if that is an issue.
Thanks very much in advance for any help you can offer!
