My friend's Subie has a cool feature that I love, you can still use the paddles while in drive mode. I don't really understand how long the override works, I think the computer figures it out.
You can use it to drop down a few cogs just before passing. You can use it for hill descent or engine braking. You can use it to get a lower gear sooner on a hill, to avoid lugging or sudden auto downshifting.
I asked my Saab guy to see if there is a setting for that, he doubts it, but is looking anyway.
