Backfire with Sport Exhaust

Hey, y'all. Been a saab lover for more than a decade... ever since I got my driver's license.
After a few wonderful old style 900s, I bought a '99 9-3 convertible last year. I put on the Saab Sport Exhaust (in an attempt to duplicate the old 900 turbo "growl"), which basically replaces everything from the cat converter on back.
As the exhaust began to break in, I starting noticing the backfire more often. And I'm not talking some mild "hiccough"... this made people on the street turn and stare. Twice I had the exhaust checked for proper installation (at the time, I worked at my family's Saab dealership, so I totally trust my technicians!). The backfire happens mostly when the car is warmed up and when I'm just coasting in 3rd gear... not on the gas or the brake.
Any ideas? Is this just natural backpressure inherent in the sport system?
Happy Holidays. Kirsten
(Any girls on this board besides me? :) )
