Many speaker installers add a piece of Dynamat type material about 12" square directly on the surface the speaker is mounting against (in this case the steel door skin) and another piece about 12" square on the interior panel (in this case the door trim panel) that the grill mounts through.
I believe the idea is to deaden the two surfaces closest to the speaker as they are the most likely to vibrate.
