Except for the obvious Saab grill work and the taxicab paint job, it looks like a Passat. If I want a VW, I'll just buy a VW.
Longer and wider than the current 9-3?!? If I want a 9-5, I'll just buy a 9-5. I think the 9-3 could be an inch or two wider and an inch or two SHORTER than the current design. That would give it a little more road stability, without making it ride like a battleship. If I want to drive a boat, I'll just buy an Oldsmobile. (Perhaps GM is looking to move some soon-to-be-redundant car designers over to the Saab division.)
And this thing in the picture does not appear to be a hatchback. If that's the case, then Saab is making a huge mistake IMHO. If I want a sedan, I'll just buy an Audi, or an Acura, or a Lexus, or an Infinity, or a Volvo, or a BMW... Well, maybe not a BMW for me, but there are numerous excellent sedans out there already. If I want a manual transmission, front wheel drive hatchback with large cargo capacity, there is only one choice on the U.S. market today: the current generation 9-3! If anyone from Saab reads Saabnet, please, please, please don't do away with the hatchback.
