Sound deadening material works best when applied directly to the metal surface around the speaker. Clean the metal surface first with alcohol or lacquer thinner. To get the best bond use a roller or the rounded end of a tool like a screwdriver to firmly press the Dynamat material to the metal surface. An Exacto knife works well to cut-out the speaker hole. If you are using a sound deadening material with an aluminum layer (like Dynamat Extreme) be sure to wear gloves as the aluminum will cut your hands.
