You have to realize that not everyone on this board is from the US. There are a lot of Saabs out on the Autobahn's spending a lot of time over 100mph. Many European brands build their cars for these speeds, not just Porche. While I won't encourage you to drive recklessly, I suggest that after you have your new Saab broken in, you take it for a high speed drive. You will be surprised at how well it performs. Personally, I think my Viggen feels better on the highway at 90 than it does at, say 65 - the aerodynamic package begins to have an effect at that speed, and the car just seems better planted on the road. The engine is smooth and I am still surprised at how much torque the car can generate at speed. No one on this board will begin to argue their 9-3 is as good a performance car as a 911, but expecting a car to handle well over 100mph really isn't that big a deal.
Dutchman - while I can't comment specifically on the base or SE handling, I can tell you that the Viggen's poor steering is felt mostly, if not entirely, at slower speeds, i.e., below 50, and on rutted pavement. I imagine the other 9-3 models are the same. If I were you, I'd take a look at the Aero, since it gives you the same aerodynamic package as the Viggen - I would love to have that model available in the US.
