Presuming that both cars were shod with like tires, I would give a slight edge to the 9-5 wagon which I think has the better overall suspension and balance. I have now logged quite a few snowy miles in my Viggen (205/50/16 Hakka Q's) and recently spent 500 miles in a loaner 9-5 SE wagon (Viggen alarm fault code-2 day repair just as I needed to go on a business trip)
I was quite impressed at the wagon's neutral handling and though it only had michelin mxv4 energy all seasons, it fared extremely well on snowy roads.
Either way, both go very well in the snow. Initially I thought I'd like to be able to put narrower 15's on the Viggen for optimum snow performance, but am not disappointed at the 16's by any means. In fact as I log more and more miles, I'm no longer sure I'd swap down.
Don't choose the car because of snow performance only, I don't think there is sufficient difference. Just my 2cents!
