I had a SAAB technician tell me to remove the DRL(daytime running light) fuse in order to get the fog lights to come on with out the headlights for extreme moisture conditions where only the fog lights are wanted. I told him that I already had the fuse out and had no luck. So out comes the Tech II.
With the DRL fuse out and Tech II changes:
Headlights: Alternative 1*
Foglights: Alternative 1*
*Don't quote me on the senario because we went through a few before we got what we wanted.
The above scenario is probably not DOT(Department of Transportation) approved but should not cause any problems.
I know have:
-Headlight switch off: off - flash-to-pass active
-Headlight switch first position: parking lights with the option of front foglights - when front foglights are on the rear can be turned on also. Flash-to-pass active.
-Headlight switch second position: headlights on, foglights(front or rear) on or off. High beam on and so are foglight when in on position(this maybe be DOT illegal). Flash-to-pass active.
As you can see by the pics the distance of the front foglights by themselves, besides being a dip in the pavement about 5 feet out, they don't do much from the factory. This Tech II change makes the most sense since there are times that the headlights may not be wanted; i.e. heavy moisture or parking. The changes should are applicable to the 9-5 and 9-3 at least for MY 2000.
If you ask for this to be changed also ask for the "Test Brakes" that new passengers like to yell out and turn off the keyless entry tones and just have lights or listen for the door locks as they are pretty loud. If you complain and make the justification for the changes they may do it for free during service. :)
