It is VERY difficult for me to relate to the people who have squeaks and rattles in their SAABs. You see I have 2, a 99 9-3 convertible and a 95 9K CS. The convertible has about 18K miles and the 9K about 55K. Both are un der most circumstances completely rattle free. The reason I say most circumstances is that during some recent cold (20F I live in Dallas) weather, the convertible did creak a time or two in the top. Otherwise both cars are as solid as a rock. While I have my problems like the headlight wipers and the throttle and downshift cables on the 9K, the cars have been quite reliable and solid. Perhaps I am a bit jaded, I remember a 1982 Dodge I had that by the time it was 2 years old, I had spent more on repairs (not maintenance) than payments. When I remember that beast my SAABs are saints.
Kind of off topic, but I have to share this...occurred after the FOURTH clutch cable broke on the Dodge (at less than 20K miles) and each new cable was obviously different from its predecessor aka latest engineering change...
me: Sir this morning I was at a stop light and I watched a student walk his bike across the street in front of my car. After he crossed the light turned green and I pushed in the clutch and placed the transmission in first gear. At that point the cable snapped and the car lurched forward and stalled. Since this is the 4th cable in 18 months, could you please advise me as to what I should do in the next instance where their might be a pedistran in front of me?
Regional Director of Customer Service, Dodge Division:
"Mr. xxx use the brake".
I kid you, not that is an exact quote.
My reply:
Well sir, based on that response and your obvious lack of concern, I will hang up and hope that when you get home tonight, you find your wife in bed with the Avon Lady.
Mr. Dodge:
WHAT!
me
I figure finding the mailman there just wouldn't be enough for guys like you.
Needless to say my next car nor any since or any in the future will be a Chrysler product. Since that time I have purchased a car, on average, every 18 months. Pity Mercedes purchased Chrysler, I really liked y S class...
And they say elephants have long memories....
LOVE my SAABs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
