This is common it seems. I am suspicious that vinyl dressings are penetrating the thin plastic material, and softening the adhesive. With the adhesive softened, the material can shear, especially with heat in the summer. The plastic which wants to swell, now has a place to go, as the adhesive will now let it move. I believe that the dressings are making the plastic swell, not just the heat.
If the plastic was dimentionally stable or the adhesive was stable this would not happen. It appears that both are unstable. This is why I am suspicious of vinyl dressings. And perhaps peanut oil is the worst material, but it is hard to know such things for certain.
Plastics like to absorb oily materials, especially vinyl. Vinyl in its pure state is hard and brittle. Oils and other materials are added to the vinyl to make it soft and flexable. It can absorb more if exposted. It can also release it's plastisisors (can't figer the spelling on that today!). That is why vinyl will stick to photo copy toner and other things. Also, in many situations, sticker applied to vinyl will have their adhesive turned to goo, as oils migrate out of the vinyl into the adhesive. It seems that electical cords now have to have dummy stickers applied to them, and the adhesive that contact the cord ends up being a slimey mess. I have also seen vinyl stickers which self destruct, as the product is self contaminating. I doubt that this is the issue with the Saabs. One could state that the Saab vinyl with dressings is not longer compatible with its adhesive.
