The underlying theme from Saab in ALL their owner's manals is XW-30 weight, except where temps are consistently above ......then they go to xW-40 weight.
There is little if any for you to gain to go to xW-50 unless you race/rally on the weekends.
My point is that, brand aside for the moment, 10W-30 synthetic from a bottle with the starburst on the label, you'll never outdrive.
Now, brand considered, it's darn hard to beat Mobil 1 10W=30 for passenger car applications. Turbo or NOT.
Sounds more like this guy was doin' a sales number/marketing job 'cause he's the Castrol dealer.
All my Saabs receive a steady diet of Mobil 1 10W-30. I never ever had an oil related/mechanical issue in 18-20 yrs of use.
