The other day I was driving and a late 80's/early 90's mustang flew up on me and around me. I followed and stayed with him for a long time. It was nice to see the smoke from the unburned fuel puff from his exhaust pipe every time that he shifted while I just stayed in 4th and 5th.
The only thing was that I looked down and my boost would only go up to about halfway after I had been on the throttle at high speed for an extended time (3-4 minutes) (not full the whole time). I could hit the clutch and coast and then the boost would come back for a while, then fall back.
I assume that something was getting hot and the engine was lowering the boost. I have a base 99 9-3 with stock everything. The silencer has been removed from the turbo duct. Was it the intercooler? Was it the stock exhaust gettting too hot? Was it the turbo?
I was not near the 143 limiter so I know it was not that. I had the plugs changed 6000 miles ago. The temperature was 55 F and the conditions were sunny. I shifted at 5100 RPM.
I know that racing is childish, but I can tell you that its nice to play with a mustang and not get trampled. Now I just want to figure out what I can replace to keep the boost up.
