The best thing of course is to never take your car through a mechanical car wash. The impact of the brushes combined with the grit on your car will leave visible marks that can only be buffed out. If you're OK with this, but want to minimize the damage, wait until the paint has hardened and you have waxed the car a few times before you go through the mechanical wash - at least then the wax will help protect the surface to a certain degree. Wash the car by hand, often, until then. This doesn't have to be an involved affair, just rinse the car thoroughly and allow it to soak a little before using a soft cloth, or even the palm of your hand to remove stuck-on dirt. It is very important to keep the paint surface clean, especially on a new car, if you want to keep it looking new.
