My saab 9-3 is one of the earliest 9-3's that I have ever heard about. The service manual shows a Pre delivery inspection in early 98 and delivery in either May or June, I can't remember. The fact that my radio said Clarion on the top was why I was so excited about the idea of being able to put a changer in my car for little money. The pin out is exactly like yours. Exactly.
The only differance is that my model number ant the bottom is PU-2134A. Yours is revision B. At least now we know that there were differant revisions of the head unit. It would be interesting to see if any 2000's or 2001's had other revisions.
For the 1999 model year of all of their AFTERMARKET head units and changers, Clarion introduced the CeNet bus. This bus used a round din connector just like the CDC models (C bus), but the new CeNet Bus allowed CD text to be transferred from changers and control of a lot of new multimedia components like TV tuners, VCRs, DVD, etc.
For the 1999 Model year, I THINK Clarion changed over to the CeBus in the Saabs. The adaptor that I talked about was the GM10PCCLRC made by clarion to connect some kind of factory GM head unit to the CeNET bus (the Z series changers). One end is molex, the other is the DIN for the changer. The retail on this piece is 99.00. I assume it will be cheaper at the street price. This is why the adaptor will have to go in line. To get from the Molex to the Din connector.
Now I am trying to figure out where the best place for the adaptor would be. I think the trunk would be the best place. The trunk has twelve pins in the Molex (Think Rectangle) and the GM10 adaptor has a 10 pin molex in, then an adaptor box, and then a 13 pin din (think circular) out. This makes me think that I may hve to build an adaptor to go from 12 to 10 and thats it. The wire colors are close to the ones on the Saab. The number of wires and the number of pins on the 12 pin molex left unfilled seems to be the same. All of it is in the same place. I am going to do some research and see how many GM products use Clarion.
It would be really nice if someone with the Saab changer could provide some pictures or info. I would really like to be able to look at a Saab circuit board and compare the chips in the control to the chips in the adaptor. I am going to try and get my local audio shop to order me one (the GM10 Adaptor). There is also a GM9 and with my luck I would order the wrong one.
To answer your question about the mounting brackets, I really don't know, it all depends. The Saab pictures sure do make the changer look like a pioneer. The magazine is modern pioneer. I would be barking up the wrong tree with all of this, but thats part of the fun of trying to figure things out.
