As with any system, the more you take abrupt and rather violent actions with it, the less use you will find you can make of it over the long haul. This caution applies to tires, engine life, clutch, braking, knobs, handles, and levers - the works. [In fact, experienced turbo drivers will tell you viz acceleration that easing in the use of the turbo actually gives you better acceleration than does flooring the pedal. It's more an art than a mechanical thing.]
It follows on the braking that if you don't need violently to haul that sucker up, and you want your system to last longer, don't do it.
I have found on slippery surface braking (a barrel of laughs - esp with passengers in the back - maybe 3 teen-aged girls) you don't need to haul up hard. You can feather the car around with easy hand-braking that doesn't produce that thunking sound.
