Like Marc said, you could just replace the original dash speakers with component speakers in the door/dash as long as the sensitivity is such that the component speakers will work well with the 40W head unit.
I just went with sort of an intermediate approach. I left the stock dash and rear speakers in powered off the head unit, but added 6.5" door speakers powered by a 50W amp which I mounted where the Saab upgrade amp goes behind the passenger footwell center console kick panel. The only trick is finding an amp that is no deeper than 2", otherwise the kick panel will not fit back over it. I got an MTX 2120 which is 6"x9"x2" and mounted it so the 9" dimension was the horizontal dimension. (I had to rig a couple of support brackets to hold it in place because the mounting holes for the Saab amp didn't line up with the mounting feet of the MTX amp.)
I've been driving around for about 2 weeks now with it all installed and I am happy with the results. The door speakers powered off the amp are so much better and louder than the stock speakers off the head unit, that I left the gain control on the amp down fairly low so that as I raise the volume on the head unit, the door speakers don't completely overwhelm the other 4 speakers. Even so, they make a temendous difference in the sound stage in the front seats.
If I get a chance the next week or two, I plan to do a full write-up with detailed pictures that I will post...not to just promote my particular setup, but to give people ideas that they may be able to adapt.
Mark
