Just for fun...feedback on auto to manual convert?

I know this was discussed a bit in the NG900 BB a couple of weeks ago, but I'd like to reiterate here, just out of curiosity. Most of the time, I'm quite happy with my decision to go automatic for my 9-3, some of you may remember my praises of it. This still holds true. However, the thought of what it would have been like to have a manual instead does cross my mind often. (Today, I caught myself "airshifting" and clutching against the dead pedal.)
Considering (very hypothetically) switching my auto to manual. I know that the ECU software would have to be changed, a shifter, gearbox, clutch, and clutch pedal+linkage would have to be added. Of course, this means removing the engine and modifying the interior a bit. Any ideas on how much the equipment would run, used?
Anyway, if I did get my hands on the entire transmission equipment and ECU from a wrecked 5-speed 9-3, would the effort of installing still be too overwhelming? My guess is no, but I'm not sure that I know enough about auto mechanics to be comfortable doing all that work myself. Paying a shop to do it would probably cost as much as the parts. Any guesses (I'm assuming that no one has ever tried this)?
