Synthetic Oil Question

I had a oil question for my new 9-3.
Can I switch to Synthetic oil at my 1st oil change or should I wait until full break-in?
Someone was saying that a new engine needs proper break-in and Synthenic oil might be too slick to allow proper break-in.
I plan to change the oil every 8K Km (5000 miles), even though the service interval is double that.
I'd like to know more on
- oil change interval for owners here
- what kind of oil is used
