Shift points in 9-3 Base - kindof related to shift up light post

Ok, I got the car last night. Very fun, although a tad bit of buyers remorse that I am sure will disappear during the next snow storm (I still want the SE, but reality dictated otherwise).
I am going to wait until the 30 day checkup to have the shift-up light disabled, but in the mean time I read in the owner's manual that the light's recommendations should not always be followed anyway.
So, what are the recommended shift points for this car? Obviously the shift-up light is very comfortable with the car trundling along at 1400 rpm in 5th gear, but it almost sounds like the engine is lugging even on a straight and flat roadway. In my VW they published recommended shift points - e.g. into 5th at 39 mph (1500 rpm), into 4th above X mph (xxxx rpm) etc. for most economical driving. In the V6 that car had, 1500 rpm felt very comfortable.
Also, do these shift points change whether I am in the break-in period or not? Obviously in the upper RPM range it does, because I cannot go over 5,000 rpm for a 1,000 miles.
Thanks,
Stuart
