From what I have been able to find out the NG 9-3
will introduce quite a few changes.
Apparently the venerable 2.0L and 2.3L Turbo engines
are nearing end of production and they will be replaced.
Thus the NG 9-3 could very well get the new 2.0-2.3L GM
4cyl engine. This engine is kind of a GM copy of the
current SAAB engine and it should offer more development
potential. It has pretty much everything the current SAAB engine
has and it will be Turbocharged as a SAAB engine. Power
output will be about the same, but the engine is a bit lighter
and it can be fitted to a 5spd Auto or 6 spd manual gearbox
if need be.
This 2.2L engine is already being fitted into new Saturn and Opel/Vauxhall
cars and all that I have heard so far is positive. Even so the current
verions are non turbo.
Later on the NG 9-3 and other SAABs will get the SCC and SVC engines.
The main question would be about the SCC engine as the current
prototype is based on the current SAAB engine.
Steyr-Puch is cooking up an AWD system for the NG 9-3 and NG 9-5
so we might get some AWD SAAB sedans ina few years.
That's all!
Regards,
Coolknight
