Tags in June 00 for my 96 900S were ~$250 here in MN. (We got a rebate that year though)
In MN, Ventura has changed the tags so that it's full price the 1st year, capped at $199 the 2nd and capped at $99 for each year after. It's structured as a property tax (at least it's deductible). Year 1 for my 00 9-5 Aero was $521. Youch.
I owned a 98 BMW 328i. First year, it was ~$435. 2nd year (before Ventura reforms) it was $421. Since it's a property tax and based on the value of the asset, they were saying that my 328i depreciated by only 3.5% in the first year and ~15000 miles. Uh, yeah... I know BMW's hold their value better than Saab's but we'd you couldn't afford not to drive BMW's if the depreciation was that low.
