Hi,
I got the 5-speed manual 2nd gear and 3rd gear are alot of fun.
I do notice a bit of a small lag between 2nd and 3rd gear change during acceleration. Although I havent pushed it red-line yet. Overtaking is not a problem. I mean you have 205hp, but I find a change down from 5th to 4th necessary for the turbo to really do its stuff.
I test drove a Subaru Impreza GT Turbo (2000 old style), V40 T4 phase II, and Mondeo ST200 (Old Style), that was about it. I didnt like the A4/Passat on looks and didnt want BMW because of rear wheel drive.
The Subaru had plus points for 4x4 and being crazy fast, but lost out on a very dated interior.
The Mondeo had good features, similar to the Aero (leather, 17" rims, computer) But it was a Ford... and was about to be replaced within weeks.
It was a tie between the V40 T4 and 9-3 Aero. The Aero won on standard features and looks... I also preferred the 9-3 hatch style to the V40 Estate/Wagon shape. Also the 17" rims and viggen style bumpers make the Aero alot sportier looking.
But like I said before, the non-sliding seats were the big factor for me when deciding between 3 or 5 doors. The 3 door Aero is definately better looking, judge the seats for yourself when you go. Remember to set the front seats to a realistic position. I have long legs so the seat is right back therefore making the gap to the rear small. Of course the seats can be moved and returned via the memory function, but they dont move that quickly.
I will be upgrading to Nordic's Trim packet 3. But I am a bit of a performance freak (Nordic was another reason I went for the Aero), but I'm not at all disappointed by the current level of performance, and I will definately not do the upgrade for a year.
Finally, this is my first turbo charged car, and I had all these preconceptions about turbo lag and unexpected boost etc, but I really have enjoyed it so far, the TCS really make it very drivable, even in the winter.
Hope this helps some...
