Let me see if I can guess how this relates to the 9-3:
Roll: The car has a relatively high center of gravity for a "sports" car. The chassis is also relatively narrow, limiting the mechanical advantage of the springs. The effect of stiffer roll bars is limited by flex in the chassis, as the front end will always move somewhat independently from the rear (I imagine this effect becomes more important the stiffer you try to make the roll bars).
Ride: Rear suspension is what it is - not much point in worrying over that. Softer springs would only increase body roll. They would also have a harder time overcoming the excessive friction.
Solutions would be to stiffen the chassis somehow (perhaps Abbott's brace would help) and then install stiffer roll bars, replace the bushings in the control arms, and trade the car in for the wider NG9-3 next year.
Question: do you think that Saab engineers made the best compromises they could with what they were given? (E-mail me if you don't want to answer that in public.)
