Remember that in my post I said "unless you intend to keep a vehicle until it falls apart".
It will always be cheaper to buy a vehicle for cash or finance it (although 72 months is ridiculous) and keep it until it has no value, than to lease new vehicles every three or four years.
I have been burned by purchasing great driving, but throughly unreliable cars in the past. I vowed never to keep a vehicle past the factory warranty period again. I just don't have the time or patience to fix it every time something goes wrong. And I will not play the "guess the depreciation" game.
I drive a SAAB because the dealer near me (1 mile away) is pretty good in doing repair work and always gives me a loaner or rental at no additional cost. I could never go back to Nissan or Honda, as they do not have that kind of service. Acura and BMW do, and I would consider them when my lease is up.
For me, it's worth the extra $$$. For others, it isn't.
Note to LDH, don't ever put $$$ down on a lease unless the sum of the payment reductions over the lease exceeds the down payment. Otherwise, its a pre-payment penalty. Always negotiate all of the terms. Factory leases are based on a certain amount off of MSRP that is usually refunded to the dealer, so he is even. You can do much better if the dealer wants to move the car.
Just my opinion.
