9-3 SE - you need winter tires!

Both are your best defense against a snow storm.
I've driven several AWD cars and a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the snow, and I can honestly say that a smart person in a FWD car is in many cases, in a better situation.
I have four snow tires on my Viggen (Michelin Pilot Alpin), and the car is fantastic in the snow, and I DON'T have TCS in my car. The only downside would be steep hill climbs where an AWD car would win, but I live in eastern Mass, which is more or less flat. If your car has the V-rated Michelin Pilot HXs (which I think the SEs come with), you need to get a different tire for the winter. You might as well be driving on racing slick-type tires! I have first hand experience with those on my ex-Volvo 850 Turbo. In the snow, they are useless. When I swapped to the Gislaved Norfrosts, the car was a totally different animal!!
If you think the suspension is loose, definitely have it checked. I find that this Saab is one of the best snow cars I've had (though my FWD Volvo 850 was almost as good)...as long as you use caution.
Remember to brake using the gears, and shift up early to avoid overpowering the wheels on the snow (that is, if your car is a 5 speed).
Good luck!
