This attitude of yours is invaluable when it comes to finalizing a deal, either for the Volvo or the Saab. I'm sure you've let both dealers know price is an issue.
Go for the Saab. It won't let you down. Although my wife has a disconnect when it comes to cars and cannot possibly "fall in love" with any vehicle, I have.
I came back to Saab after I bought a second hand turbo in the mid 80s when performance cars were scarce as hen's teeth. Although the car had been abused and I poured money into this unit, I never quite got over the feel of power and integrity from that car (when it worked right) and its utility and versatility. When, last year, it came time to get into some new wheels, the Saab was financially almost irresistable and the car continues, almost flawlessly, to fill all our needs.
Flaws? The heater control rheostat switch tends to snap off and the plastic mini-spoiler lip protecting mud and goop from coming up into the engine bay gets caught on parking lot cement blocks and splits, needing a trim with a hacksaw.
The blind spot associated with the driver's rear view mirror's can be remedied with a $2.00 stick on mini-mirror. On moist days, clearing interior window condensation may require use of the air conditioning unit.
If you decide on the Saab, on dealing to close, in addition to the armrest, ask for front speaker upgrades, a bottle of touch-up paint, the cargo net, and a Saab baseball cap.
