Steering Groan - Great Dealer Exp - Burlingame Saab CA
Posted by Scott Paterson (# 13) (more from Scott Paterson) on Wed, 25 Jun 2003 14:34:11

Our 1999 9-3 has had a bit of light groaning in the morning for a few months now and about 7,000 miles. Burlingame replaced the steering pump under warranty about 5,000 miles ago. Both Elle and I were in the car on Friday morning to go to the airport and when I backed out of the driveway and turned sharply to the left to get pointed in the right direction on our street, we both commented on the power steering groan. Since Elle was taking the car in this week for the 55,000 oil change, we decided she would bring it up. Burlingame couldn't reproduce the noise, but spoke to us about helping them to troubleshoot when it occurs and promised to re-visit it at the 60,000 major service (or sooner if needed). I think this is a great experience simply because the dealership went out of its way to work with us on this problem instead of just saying they could not reproduce it.

In addition, at our last service, we were told our coolant was significantly low. They refilled it for us and we shrugged it off, but this time, there was very clearly a leak and the water pump was kaput. This was replaced under warranty without hassle as it was clearly a problem that was underway at our last service but not fully symptomatic. I can't say enough good things about Burlingame Saab. They've also always had a Saab loaner for us on service days. They are the best.

We are very lucky here in the Bay Area, especially on the Peninsula. B&B Saab and Burlingame Saab are run by dedicated Saab folks. Combine that with the independent service like Paul Perry's Swedish Auto Factory in Santa Clara (who takes care of my Sonett when I get in over my head) and Saab owners have a lot of resources here! Even elsewhere in the Bay like Peters Saab Service in San Rafael and Dirito Brothers in Walnut Creek. We're surrounded with Saab support!
